The principal outcomes of a project are the satisfaction of customer requirements within the constraints of technical, cost, and schedule objectives. Projects are defined by their limitations. They have finite budgets, definite schedules, and carefully stated specifications for completion. For example, a term paper assignment in a college class might include details grading form, length, number of primary and secondary sources to cite, and so forth.Likewise, in the Disneys Expedition Everest case example, the executive leading the change process established clear guidelines regarding performance expectations. All these constraints both limit and narrowly define the focus of the project and the options available to the project team. It is the very task of managing successful project development within such specific constraints that makes the field so challenging. 8. American Born Chinese Essays - Buddhism In China, Free Essays
American Born Chinese Conformity can be defined as acting in a socially acceptable way while behaving in ways that may not be typically how a person acts. Throughout Gene Luen Yangs novel American Born Chinese, three main characters try to change themselves in order to fit in with the people that surround them. The characters struggle to find themselves and identify with their surroundings, but by doing so, they forget who they are and why where they come from is so important. The monkey king, Jin Wang, and Danny all put their greatest efforts in to mask their true identities and become something they arent. Eventually they realize who they are is who they are meant to be, and they should not try to change themselves any longer. Throughout the whole novel, the characters can be seen as disguising or hiding ones own true colors, soon after discovering that being ashamed of oneself is not the correct way to go about fitting in. The Monkey King tried to fit in and master the arts of kung-fu. He did so, and strived to reach immortality. When he waits in line for what seems to him like an eternity, he is politely turned away, showing his embarrassment to all around him. At this point, he is determined to make a change to himself into somebody who would be let into the land of immortality, despite his monkey self. After this, the Monkey King spends his days training, his nights meditating, and forbidding himself of food and water. He achieves the four major disciplines of invulnerability, to fire, to cold, to drowning and to wounds, and continues his new routine in order to achieve more. When he allows himself out of his chamber, he is shocked when he receives a notice saying he is being sentenced with death for trespassing upon Heaven. Although the Monkey King thought he was doing something successful in his training to become somebody he was not, in reality, he was just hurting himself even more. There is a r eason why he is not granted immortality, and his kind is not meant to live the life he was striving for. He attempts to overcome it all and get himself to heaven, being stopped upon the entrance, I created you I say that you are a monkey, therefore, you are a monkey (Yang 69). Shortly following this he is informed, I am Tze-Yo-Tzuh, all that I have created- all of existence- forever remains within the reach of my hand. You I have created. Therefore, you can never escape my reach (Yang 70). Despite the Monkey Kings best efforts to transform himself, he is reminded by his creator what he is meant to do, who he is, and who he is not. Jing Wang enters his new school and is immediately belittled by his teacher and classmates due to his nationality. Nobody takes the chance to get to know Jin and immediately he is categorized by the students as different just because he is Chinese. Because of this, Jin tends to put his culture and nationality to the side and focus on fitting in as a normal American grammar school student. At one point in the beginning of the novel, when Jin is speaking with a woman in the doctors office of his mother, he is asked what he wants to be when he grows up. His response is that he wants to be a transformer, and then continues to tell the woman that his mother thinks his idea is silly. The womans response to him is, Its easy to become anything you wish, so long as youre willing to forfeit your soul (Yang 29). This can also become foreshadowing to the events to follow, as Jin begins to change himself to fit in with the rest of the kids in his school. Jin feels shame in his nationality and turns away from another new Asian student when he tries to befriend him. At first, Jin denies his friendship and tries to act better than Wei-Chen, like the others treated him when he first arrived. Jin wants nothing to do with his culture and feels ashamed to be compared to the new student because

Crockett & Tubbs Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Crockett & Tubbs - Assignment Example There are legal frameworks that guide the formation and fulfillment of business contracts. There are ethical practices that form the business culture of any business establishment. A contract formation consists of several stages. In the case of Crockett and Tubbs, the contract was at the negotiation stage. If an agreement had been reached and the business contract signed by both parties, then such a contract is not to be contravened, since it is legally binding. In law, under the rule of contract, when a business matter, transaction or contract is completed, it is final. Failure for Crockett to sale the Ferrari Daytona at $250,000 would lead to a court case. Otherwise, if a contract had not been signed, Tubbs negotiators can be influenced by the increase in demand for the Ferrari Daytona and change the terms of negation so as to make more profits. For this case, Crockett had not signed a business contract with Tubbs and therefore, the law leaves the decision upon Tubbs to either change the terms and conditions. The aim of a business is to generate profits. To achieve this, the business must establish a nourishing relationship with its partners in business. Crockett should be guided by ethical principles of business conduct. A legitimate business will make the customer come for more and therefore, to reinforce the relationship and also ensure sustainable business, Crockett ought to sell the Ferrari Daytona to Tubbs at $250,000. Some business individuals advance the argument that there is a mutual relationship between ethics and business. They presume that ethics naturally comes to those businesses that are profit-oriented. This argument has both weak and strong versions. For the present case of Crockett and Tubbs, a profit-oriented approach may seem to provide a short term success (Fieser, 1996). Businesses which are thriving are those that have embraced ethical practices

Emergency Management Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Emergency Management - Research Paper Example The mission of the Base emergency management is to direct and deploy assets to mitigate risk. It is clearly indicated from this mission that the Base EOC is only aimed at making sure that risks are adequately mitigated through directing and deploying of available assets. In the process, they use various resources that includes; professional personnel, the various tools used in the emergency such as fire extinguishers and water, transportation materials, active communication channels, and the support from the relevant authorities (Hughes, 2012). The resources mentioned here are crucial for the emergency management process to be effective both in the short run and long run. It is due to this that most managers consider them to be assets in their organization which come to help in the management of the risk. However, the availability of such assets is not always guaranteed for every organization that is in charge of controlling emerging situations in our society. Therefore, it was cruci al that we consider if these valuable resources are available to the Base EOC. Consideration of the availability of these assets can help in determining if the Base emergency management is going to achieve its mission of mitigating risks through deploying of assets in the affected regions.

Strength and Weakness Essay Example for Free
Strength and Weakness Essay Focus Focus is a scary word to most people. What can it do for us? How can it help us? Can we program ourselves to focus? Focus, confidence and selfdiscipline all work hand in hand with each other. Learning to focus can help us in many ways. It can help us realise what we really want in life, it can help us make good and informed decisions. It can also help us to accept ourselves just the way we are, without feeling the need to condemn ourselves or putà ourselves down in any way, shape or form. Focus can help us gain confidence, power and happiness. Focus can also help us remain grounded and stay on track. Focus can change confusion into absolute knowledge and self-criticism into love for oneself. Always be aware that you ARE able to focus on what you want, and to focus your thoughts on anything at all. Try it now by thinking about the dishes, now change your focus and think about your car. Switch focus again and think about a dog. It really is that easy to focus on whatever you want to focus on. We all need to learn to set aside time to be used on the one thing we want or need to focus on. Itââ¬â¢s not a matter of ââ¬Å"taking the timeâ⬠to focus, but more a matter of ââ¬Å"making the timeâ⬠. If we are willing to make the time, we will focus a lot better on whatever it is you want or need to do. You ask me how I can possibly make time to focus with four demanding children, 3 dogs and a new house? Easy, I can stay up for an extra hour when all the kids are in bed and the house is quiet, and MAKE the time to focus on what Iââ¬â¢m doing with absolutely no distractions at all. Oh, thatââ¬â¢s right; you work too, so youââ¬â¢re too tired to stay up late. How about getting up half an hour early, before the madness at home begins? Before you go to bed, get everything ready for your early morning ââ¬Å"focus timeâ⬠so that you donââ¬â¢t have to run around looking for it when youââ¬â¢re half awake. Of course, this means you have to have a plan of action ready beforehand. Decide when you are going to make time, and stick to it like glue. Donââ¬â¢t let ANYTHING take you away from that time. Make sure you have everything you need all in one place, a room, or ev en a corner of a room where you can sit in peace. Unplug the phone, turn off the television, and donââ¬â¢t even listen to quiet background music. Whatever happens around you will distract you unless you learn how to focus. Sometimes it seems easier to just go along with these distractions than to focus on the end goal. Remember, if you let yourself go along with the distractions, you are losing sight of your goals. Sharpen your vision of what you want or you WILL be at the mercy of your environment. When you want something you have to decide EXACTLY what it is you want. If you donââ¬â¢t know what you want, thereââ¬â¢s no way on earth youââ¬â¢reà going to be able to focus on it. So you want to pass that driving test that youââ¬â¢ve taken and failed umpteen times, or you want to pass that really important exam in school. You might want to write a book, or build a website, run your own business, be a teacher or any number of different things. The main thing is you have to KNOW thatââ¬â¢s what you want, and you have to set your aims high and demand yourself to focus on getting it. Read more:à Examples of Personal Strengths and Weaknesses Once you decide what you want, you have to decide WHY you want it. Visualize yourself in that brand new Mercedes or BMW, or in front of that school desk teaching the kids geography. The vision makes you feel good, right? So thatââ¬â¢s why you want it, it feels good to do what you want to do, be who you want to be and own what you want to own. Visualization is a major part in being able to focus. If you can actually see yourself in the position you want to be in, then itââ¬â¢s so much easier to focus on the task of getting there. The next thing you have to do is to decide how youââ¬â¢re going to actually get what you want. What are you willing to sacrifice in the quest to get those great exam grades? What can you do without in order to start up your own business? How can you make your family life happier and more peaceful? Sit back and close your eyes, imagining what it will be like to have what you want in life, and think long and hard about what you can give up so that you can get there. Say you want a new sofa, but the only way you can get one is if you quit smoking. Envision the sofa, with you and your partner cuddling up on it. What colour is it? Is it big and fluffed up, or is it a small ultra-modern sofa? Focus on the sofa and want it badly enough, you WILL stop smoking so you can get it. These are all small things and perfectly attainable with a little bit of focus, but what if you want bigger and better things than thatà for yourself. First overcome the exams, once that goal is reached go get that driving licence. Next you get a brand spanking new BMW. Keep setting goals; as soon as you reach the first one, move on to the next, staying focused all the time on what it is you want. Reaching that first goal will give you anà incredible boost of confidence, which in turn will make it so much easier to get started on the next goal. The more goals you reach, the more confidence you will have in yourself and that will fuel the success of the next goal, and the next one after that, until there are endless possibilities for you. Start off by wri ting down each and every goal you WANT to reach in your lifetime. Then write a daily plan for the goal you want to reach first. Write the plan before you go to bed at night, it gives your brain time to take it all in and work with it. Itââ¬â¢s amazing what the brain will do when we are sleeping. Also, writing the plan the night before helps free up that time during the next day so that you can purely sit and focus on the task at hand. Make the plan a numbered list and cross each item off as you finish it. Youââ¬â¢ll be amazed at how quickly you get through it this way. Once youââ¬â¢ve reached the outcome you want, move on to your next goal following the same pattern as before. If you find your thoughts wandering in your ââ¬Å"focus timeâ⬠take a break, write down your thoughts and put them away somewhere for future reference. If you find there are multiple things you can do to attain your goals, figure out which of them is the one most likely to help you get there quickest. Put the others on hold, they may come in useful when youââ¬â¢re aiming for that next goal. If you lock your focus, and stick with it for as long as you have to, you WILL succeed. If you stick to one thing, one goal and focus on that, its virtually impossible to not reap the rewards of your actions. Confidence Before we start, please keep one thing in mind; Confidence and arrogance are two totally different things. If you confuse the two, you will most certainly become a very unhappy person with very few real friends. Arrogance is NOT a ââ¬Å"qualityâ⬠and it wonââ¬â¢t help you reach your goals any faster. Confidence in oneself, or the lack thereof is what stops people from getting tightly focused on what they want to achieve. That little voice telling them they cant do something is their biggest UN-motivator. What can YOU do toà gain confidence? 25 Tips Toward Boosting Your Confidence and Self Esteem. 1. Love Yourself: This can take a bit of practice and looks really funny, but try it, it works. When you wake up, give yourself a great big hug. Do the same when itââ¬â¢s time for sleep. Youââ¬â¢ve heard this said a million times before: ââ¬Å"How can you expect others to love you if you dont love yourself?â⬠Itââ¬â¢s true. Practice the morning and evening hugs for 2 weeks, maybe 3 weeks if youre the stubborn type and youââ¬â¢ll see how well it works. 2. Look in the mirror: Every time you pass a mirror, look into it and flash your biggest and best smile at yourself. It might feel strange at first, but eventually itââ¬â¢ll make you feel brilliant about yourself. Tell yourself ââ¬Å"Looking good!â⬠or ââ¬Å"Wow, I love me!â⬠or similar phrases often enough to actually start believing it. 3. Do things that make you feel good: This can be anything from listening to music, trekking in the Andes, doing some volunteer work or even just taking a shower. Anything that gives you a positive feeling about yourself works for this one. 4. Listen to YOU: Face it. Nobody knows you better than you know yourself, no matter how many people try to tell you differently. So if your body, mind or gut is telling you something, then take notice of it, and dont worry about what other people may possibly have to say about it. 5. Talk to YOU: In times of stress, take a time-out break. Wander into your own mind and have a conversation with yourself about anything at all. Tell yourself how luckyà you are to be you, and praise yourself for every good and positive thing you can attribute to yourself. 6. Remove negatives: If anything feels like itââ¬â¢s dragging you down, get rid of it. If itââ¬â¢s clutter, tidy up, if itââ¬â¢s a friend full of negativity explain nicely that you donââ¬â¢t really feel up to talking right now. If itââ¬â¢s your kids acting up, leave the room for a while and so on. 7. Surround with positives: Surround yourself with things that bring out good feelings in you. Examples could be things such as happy, upbeat friends, a nice new picture, a new car, an old comfy blanket, candles, pictures of your family, your girlfriend, boyfriend, spouse etc. 8. Rumours Die: Did you hear something about somebody who said something about somebody else? Drop it! Rumours are nasty, horrible things that will only bring you down. Best way to kill a rumour? Ignore it! 9. Total Honesty: Be totally honest with yourself at all times. If thereââ¬â¢s something you dont like, admit it. If thereââ¬â¢s something you donââ¬â¢t want to do ââ¬Å"right nowâ⬠and it isnââ¬â¢t necessary for health and safety reasons then just donââ¬â¢t do it until you feel like it. Same goes for the positive aspects. If thereââ¬â¢s something you want to do, and itââ¬â¢s not hurting anybody, then go ahead and do it. If you start feeling great about yourself for no apparent reason admit it and enjoy the feeling. 10. Responsibility Take full responsibility for your own actions. Dont shove the blame for anything over onto someone or something else. We all make choices in our lives, and once we take responsibility for those choices we tend to choose better for ourselves. Once we start to choose better, we feel better and things start falling into place. On the other hand, dont take over someone elseââ¬â¢s responsibilities just because you feel ââ¬Å"you have toâ⬠. 11. Pretend: If you feel unsafe, unsure or nervous then go inside yourself and pretend youââ¬â¢re a hot-shot lawyer, actor, actress, singer or whatever you need to be. Make believe youââ¬â¢re presenting yourself as that person would until you feel better. Trust me, you WILL feel better, and eventually have no need to be anything but yourself. 12. Keep Trying: If youââ¬â¢re trying to do something but dont get it right first time round, then try again, and again, and again, constantly learning from your mistakes until you get it right. When you finally DO get it right, youââ¬â¢ll feel wonderful about it. 13. Credit where credit is due: If youââ¬â¢ve done something really good, and people compliment you on it, accept the compliments with thanks! Understand that theyââ¬â¢re complimenting because they really ARE impressed with what youââ¬â¢ve done. Believe in you and give yourself a pat on the back. (Although physically it would probably be easier to just give yourself a round of applause). 14. Stand Tall: Standing up straight will ALWAYS make you feel better about yourself than slouching does. Stand with your feet slightly apart, suck in your tummy and à behind, broaden your shoulders and straighten your neck. Itââ¬â¢s an amazinglyà quick confidence boost. 15. Say Hello: Make it a rule to say hi to at least one person you dont know EVERY day. Give them the smile you flash at yourself in the mirror, the biggest and best one you can find. Theyââ¬â¢ll smile back automatically, and theyââ¬â¢ll walk away with a little extra confidence boost thanks to you. People look their best when they smile, and they also feel better by smiling too! This ultimately means you get a confidence boost too, for making someone else feel good about themselves. 16. Never Say Never.Ever: If you think something canââ¬â¢t be done, then youll end up proving yourself right eventually. So never say never, just keep plugging along until it works for you. If other people are telling you it canââ¬â¢t be done, youre going to feel such immense satisfaction at actually doing it that your confidence will soar. 17. Get Active: Dont sit around the house just doing nothing. Get up, go out, cycling, walking, exercising, anything that might invigorate your brain. A lively brain full of thoughts will help you gain confidence. 18. ââ¬Å"Happy Foodsâ⬠: Happy foods, such as chocolate, strawberries, lemons, ice-cream etc will increase the serotonin levels in your brain, leading to an increased feeling of happiness. Feeling happy is a natural confidence boost. So go on, enjoy your food! (in moderation, of course). 19. Face Your Fear: Is there something you are afraid of? Face it full on. Doing something scary and overcoming the fear is a fantastic way to boost your confidence. So go on, jump out of that plane (with a parachute of course), drive that car, speak inà front of a large crowd, ask for a promotion, or whatever it is that scares you. Youll feel absolutely brilliant once itââ¬â¢s done. 20. Willpower: Create a goal that you really want to reach. Possibly something like weight loss before a certain time, giving up smoking or having a certain amount of money in the bank within so many months etc. Take baby steps, and use your willpower until you succeed at reaching your goal. It will be really hard, as will power can be very elusive at times, but keep going and dont give up. Once you have reached that first goal by using your willpower you will have the confidence to create new goals AND reach them. 21. Ask questions: Any time you find yourself worrying about something you havenââ¬â¢t done, or something you think you should have done, ask yourself positive questions. Instead of thinking ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m terrible for missing my friendââ¬â¢s birthdayâ⬠think ââ¬Å"What can I do to make my friend feel special?â⬠Or, instead of ââ¬Å"Why canââ¬â¢t I ever seem to do things on time?â⬠change it to ââ¬Å"What can I change to better manage my timeâ⬠Creating positive questions will release the negative energies which have a tendency to pull down your self confidence. 22. Learn: Accept that not everything works out the way we plan it. Decide to accept any mistakes and rejections as part of a learning curve that we all need to go through. Without mistakes, you canââ¬â¢t learn from your own experiences. Remember, experience builds confidence, so always learn as much as you can. 23. List: Write a list of every single thing youre good at, anything from clipping the dogââ¬â¢s toenails to putting up a shelf. Take the time to sit and actually think about what you ARE good at and add them all to the list. Youll besurprised atà how many things you end up jotting down, no à matter how minor or trivial they may seem at the time. Whenever you have a spare 5 minutes, or if youre feeling a little low, take the list out of your pocket and read it. This is a great little way to give yourself a nice confidence boost. 24: Help out: There are lots of ways to help others, and feeling useful and helpful are great ways of building your confidence. Just make sure you do things because you WANT to do them. You could call a good friend who may be down at the moment-even take them out for coffee, you will brighten both your days, or you could possibly help out at an old folks home or similar. Knowing that people appreciate your help will boost your confidence for sure. 25: Show the way: Think of the one thing you do best of all. Think long and hard about this one. Thought of something? Now, find a discussion group or similar related to that topic and spread your wisdom by answering questions, offering advice or help to anybody needing it. If you canââ¬â¢t find a group, you could even start one yourself. People will look up to you and that will give you all the more reason to feel confident about yourself. Self-Discipline To really be able to focus demands a lot of self-discipline. Remember that your outcome depends on YOU, not on the world around you. If you want something badly enough you WILL do everything in your power to get it. Self-discipline in this context is basically only letting yourself do what you WANT to do at that precise moment in time to be able to reach your goals more quickly. Remember that YOU are the boss of your actions. YOU are the one who is in control. So ultimately YOU decide what and when to do thingsà you need to do to achieve your ultimate success Your ability to manage your actions is directly related to the level of success and happiness you will experience throughout your life. Managing your actions is commonly known as exercising self-discipline. Its absolutely not about restricting your lifestyle, or punishing yourself. Its about being able to work with your thoughts, behaviour and actions in order to reach the goals that you wish to reach. Not having self-discipline is one of the main reasons why we fail at what we want to do, both professionally and personally. Excuse-making often creates lack of self-discipline, so drop all your excuses and start keeping habits that in themselves will create the self-discipline you need. Make routines that you know you are capable of sticking to, and keep them. How do you attain self-discipline? A few options could be regular exercise, better, healthier eating, even learning to spend less money. It could be something like deciding to learn something new every single day or just getting up an hour earlier than you normally would. Having self-discipline will help you to complete the most boring and mundane of the tasks you are focusing on. Should you find yourself sitting and thinking thoughts like ââ¬Å"Oh, Iââ¬â¢ll just do this insteadâ⬠or ââ¬Å"I can do that some other timeâ⬠when you are working on your goals then STOP, take a deep breath and remember your self-discipline. In Ending The end of the story? You can do anything you want to do, be anything you want to be and go where you want to go. All you need is confidence in yourself and the ability to focus. Iââ¬â¢ve now given you ideas on how to do that, so go on;

We Are Media :: essays research papers
ââ¬Å"We are mediaâ⬠, media is us, and we are one.â⬠In this simple statement I site my definition of media ecology. If we would all take a look at our lives we are just a jumble of representations. From the moment we are born to the day that we die we are media. We are born a certain sex boy or girl. That represents something. Boys wear blue girls wear pink. This is a signifier to everyone of what we are. We donââ¬â¢t know we are boys or girls until someone tells different things. You have set and defined expectations for your life and ways that you will act. From that day forward we learn our media from our lives, our families, friends, literally everything we come in contact with. Everything we do and everything we see leaves some trace of an impression on us and represents something to each of us. Thatââ¬â¢s why I feel that media is us. Media is everything. We are just representations. Is there a reality? Do we exist to just consume reality? Are we realities of a representation? These are questions that I asked myself while writing this paper. à à à à à While thinking through I came up with a thought of despair, almost panic. It makes you very frustrated to think seriously about this. It makes you question everything that you were socialized to believe as a member of society. It makes you question countless things in our lives. It made me think about life in general. Who are we to define reality? What is reality? How do we tackle these questions? Truthfully, I donââ¬â¢t know if there is a way but I think we all need to examine our lives in general and the everyday lives that we live and question them. Everything we do or say has a representation so therefore is media. It is all around us. It is everywhere. Most places we donââ¬â¢t even know that it is going on. à à à à à In my inspection of my life and the media that surrounds me I have found media to be all encompassing. It is everywhere. I wake up to a clock radio that I turn off to only seconds later turn on the TV which is on until I leave my apartment. But even with the TV or radio off my apartment is still crawling with media sources. Almost everything I own has labels on it from clothes to food. We Are Media :: essays research papers ââ¬Å"We are mediaâ⬠, media is us, and we are one.â⬠In this simple statement I site my definition of media ecology. Discuss the Role that Alfieri Plays Essay
Arthur Millerââ¬â¢s A View from the Bridge is a modern tragedy set in 1950ââ¬â¢s Brooklyn about a manââ¬â¢s obsession with his niece, and what that obsession ultimately brings about. Eddie Carbone, a hard- working dockworker is the tragic hero of the piece who struggles with how he feels about his niece, Catherine. Miller manages identify and raise many themes concerning the people who lived in the area in which the play was set, themes such as family, justice, respect and death, themes that played a big part in society during that era. Alfieri is the narrator of the play; he is like a sort of Greek chorus in the sense that he divides the scenes with monologues, he also explains to the audience the themes and adds depth to the play. From the very beginning of the play Alfieri hints towards tragedy, he does this a few times in his prologue, for example, he says: ââ¬Å"I am inclined to see the ruin in things,â⬠This tells the audience or readers straight away, at the beginning of the play that Alfieri can see that Eddieââ¬â¢s story is going to end in disaster. Towards the end of the prologue, it is clear that Alfieri can do nothing to avert the play from tragedy. ââ¬Å"another lawyer, quite differently dressed, heard the same complaint and sat there as powerless as I, watched it run its bloody course. â⬠The quote explains that nobody could do anything to change what is going to happen. It also hints that blood is going to be spilt and someone is going to die. When Marco and Rodolfo first arrive they act very differently, Marco enters the house greets everyone and shows Eddie a lot of respect and thanks him, whereas Rodolfo does not show any gratitude toward Eddie at all. The stage instructions show that Eddie, whenever he asks a question about them, he goes to Marco and totally bypasses Rodolfo. Eddie shows hostility towards him from the very beginning, for example, when Rodolfo starts singing ââ¬Å"Paper Doll,â⬠Eddie interrupts and warns him that by singing it could raise suspicion about them because singing is different and as Eddie says: ââ¬Å"Because we never had no singers hereâ⬠¦ and all of a sudden thereââ¬â¢s a singer in the house, yââ¬â¢know what I mean? â⬠Eddie begins to act differently, jealous that he is no longer getting all the attention in the house, instead, Rodolfo is getting all of the attention from the women, he doesnââ¬â¢t like this so he stops him from singing and uses the excuse above to regain control of the household. The first time Eddie meets Alfieri to see if there is any legal action he can take against Rodolfo to get him away from Catherine. He is now incredibly jealous of Rodolfo and Catherineââ¬â¢s relationship, this is because of his incest feeling for ââ¬Å"Katyâ⬠, Alfieri tells him about how he feels is wrong during their meeting: ââ¬Å"We all love somebody, the wife, the kids- every manââ¬â¢s got somebody that he loves, heh? But sometimesâ⬠¦ thereââ¬â¢s too much. You know? Thereââ¬â¢s too much and it goes where it mustnââ¬â¢t. â⬠Eddie cannot admit these feelings, and gets annoyed that he canââ¬â¢t do anything without immigration officers finding out about Marco and Rodolfo because it would involve betrayal, and that creates conflict within him. On one hand, he could betray Marco and Rodolfo and go against every thing he stands for by telling immigration, but on the other he could leave things as the stand and sit back to watch Catherine get married to Rodolfo and push his feelings aside. It is because Eddie cannot push his feelings for ââ¬Å"Katyâ⬠aside that he dies, whatever he did he could not let her grow up. As Alfieri said, he did love her too much in the wrong way. This play could have ended many ways without violence, for instance, if Eddie forgot about his incest feeling or if Marco could have forgiven Eddie and apologised when Eddie demanded for ââ¬Å"his name,â⬠maybe the characters would have acted differently, but because they did not this play demonstrates many examples of betrayal, justice, honour, death and many other themes. Alfieri provides link between scenes and helps the audience understand Eddie and in a way the way he thinks.

Rude People
It seems that rude people are everywhere today: in the workplace, at the grocery store and sometimes right in our own homes. It can be very difficult dealing with rude people, especially if you are exposed to one on a daily basis, such as the office jerk or the less-than-considerate spouse. However, there are strategies that you can employ to attempt to alter the rude behavior in a not-so-rude way. Sometimes these strategies can be highly effective and sometimes not so much, depending on the person you are dealing with. The best method for dealing with rude people is to adjust your reaction to them. After all, you may not be able to change the behavior of others, but you do have control over how you react to that behavior. One way to avoid a negative reaction to a rude person is to consider why the person is acting the way he is in the first place. Why are People so Rude? According to the book, ââ¬Å"Rudeness: Deal with It if you Pleaseâ⬠by Catherine Rondina, there are a number of reasons why people behave rudely. Some of these might include the fact that they only care about what they think or need or they believe their feelings are more important than the feelings of others. They might have little or no patience for other people and they do not appreciate the differences in others. Some people are rude simply because they are trying to shock those around them with their behavior. By understanding the reasons behind the rudeness, you may find it easier to ignore the behavior and perhaps even feel a bit of compassion for the guilty party. Perhaps they never learned any better. Cell Phone Etiquette An ABC poll last year showed that most people in this country had the biggest problem with rude cell phone use above any other type of inconsiderate behavior. Nearly all of us have encountered the loud cell phone conversation in the grocery store, at the movies or in a packed elevator. Most of the time, you just try to grin and bear it, but what happens when the behavior becomes unbearable? There are a few strategies for how to deal with rude people on the phone without stooping to their rude behavior yourself. First, try giving the person a pointed look that says he is bothering you with his inconsiderate actions. Many folks do not realize that their conversation is actually annoying to those around them until they receive the ââ¬Å"lookâ⬠. You can also politely ask the person to take his conversation elsewhere. Try beginning your request with a humble apology, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m terribly sorry sir, but would you mind taking your conversation out of the theatre? We canââ¬â¢t hear the movie. â⬠Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnââ¬â¢t, but at least you gave it a shot. If your request is not heeded, you can take your problem to the manager of the restaurant or movie theatre to find out if an employee of the establishment will have better luck putting a stop to the obnoxious behavior. Cyber Manners Even the nicest, most mild-mannered folk can turn into foul-mouthed spewers of rude comments in the world of cyberspace. It appears that typing out a nasty retort and hitting that ââ¬Å"sendâ⬠button has become far too easy ââ¬â and common ââ¬â for many rude people today. Judith Kallos of NetManners. com has a number of suggestions on how to deal with rude people in cyberspace. First, if the email sent contains foul language or threats of any kind, the sender has violated his user agreement with his ISP. Send an email yourself to his ISP to alert them of the situation, and keep the email on file in case you need to refer to it later on. Beyond this step, you basically have a couple of options: ignore the rude behavior and move on as best as you can, or let the person know that his words hurt and offended you in a calm, matter-of-fact way. Any other response will simply lower yourself to the level of this person, and you certainly donââ¬â¢t want that! Dealing with the Office Jerk Rude people can be found everywhere, but when they are found at the office it can be a challenging situation indeed. Hence, the coining of the term ââ¬Å"office jerkâ⬠, and what an appropriate term it can be when you are dealing with rude people at work that you simply cannot escape. The Institute for Management Excellence has a number of steps that teach how to deal with rude people. The first step is to try polite confrontation to see if you can nip the behavior in the bud. Some people do not realize that they are behaving rudely, and others may back down if they are confronted directly. If confrontation does not work, try avoidance. Limit contact with the person by keeping conversations short and meetings to a minimum. If you must meet with the office jerk, try to remain standing throughout. Stand-up meetings can accomplish just as much, but in a generally shorter period of time. Also, do not share any personal information with this person, whether in person, on the phone or through email. Rude Retail Does anyone remember the good old days when customer service was the buzzword in the retail industry? Unfortunately, it seems today that customer service has gone out the window with many companies, and it has been replaced by apathetic employees who have no problem turning into rude people at the cash register. If you find yourself the victim of rude people retail employees, there are some steps that you can take to deal with the behavior effectively. First, do not let the customer service representative monopolize the conversation. Make your needs known clearly, assertively and politely right from the beginning. If your request is not answered in a courteous way, ask to speak with the manager. If a manager is not available, get a name and number to contact later, fill out a feedback card or contact the corporate office of the company when you get home. Email makes this process exceedingly easier, and often letting the head honchos know about your predicament will get you the response that you were hoping for. If you do not get a positive reply from your effort, perhaps it is time to go public with your complaint. Let others know that this is not a company to do business with in order to prevent them from experiencing a similar situation. It may seem as though rude people are all around us, but proper strategies for handling rude people will help you stick up for yourself without becoming one of them. If you are reading this article and think that you might fall into the category of rude people with your own inconsiderate behavior ââ¬â stop now, and find ways to spread courtesy instead. Do You Have a Bad Attitude? Remember those posters in the halls of your elementary school? The ones that said ââ¬Å"Attitude is everything! â⬠or ââ¬Å"Attitude: A little thing that makes a big difference! â⬠They seemed silly at the time, but these words of wisdom are appropriate no matter what age you are. So how's your attitude? Find out if you have a problem with this bad attitude quiz. Rate This Article: Currently 3/5 Stars. 1 2 3 4 5 (Votes: 69) (Avg: 4. 30) Sponsored by:

sexual disfunction in america essays
sexual disfunction in america essays The article being reviewed Is from the February 22, 1999 issue of U.S. News and World Report. It is titled Not tonight, dear and is written by Wray Herbert. The article is separated into three parts dealing with sex and marriage, different statistics between the races, and the treatment of sexual dysfunction. There are a number of interesting facts in the intro that should be stated before a review of the articles body commences. The author cites a recent report consisting of interviews from 3,000 adults about their sexual lives. One of the findings from the report is that at nearly any given time almost one third of American men and 4 out of 10 American omen suffer from some sort of sexual dysfunction. the range of dysfunction being suffered by American adults is a wide one, including a lack of desire, anxiety about performance, pain during intercourse, and orgasmic and arousal dysfunctions. The author then states that the contradictory messages about sexuality in our culture can only be part of the problem and that emotional and mental illnesss produced by past traumas and set backs are most likely the major cause of sexual dysfunction. First, there appears to be less reported cases of sexual dysfunction amongst married men and women than there are for singles. This sentiment is backed by a survey done by University of Chicago sociologist Edward Laumann and he concludes that the singles scene is not as carefree as it is cracked up to be and that sex within the confines of marriage is less problematic. This conclusion runs counter to the clinical experience of many sex therapists. Their experiences tend to make them think that many people in relationships are deeply committed to each other, however the are not in fact satisfied by their sexual relationships because the lack the desire to have sex. The issue of the inverse nature of male and female sexuality ...

Installation of a firewall policy in a small office - home office Essay
Installation of a firewall policy in a small office - home office (SOHO) environment - Essay Example Consequentially, it has become inevitable to protect these environments from any attack. Though none can claim that a network is totally secure, advanced security measures need always be implemented. In SOHO network, to protect any external intrusion using a firewall, one can consider using either a hardware or software firewall. A hardware firewall is a digital edge device put in a network that serves to allow or disallow network transmissions. A firewall once installed, it protects a network from unauthorised access while permitting only legitimate communications to pass through the network. Most vendors of operating systems (OS) for personal computers include software-based firewall packages in the OSs to protect threats from the public Internet. Different types of firewalls can be implemented at different levels in a network but since in a SOHO environment cost implications are vastly considered, only one level of a firewall can be implemented (Briere et al., 2010). This single l evel of firewall application must be effective enough so as to ensure that any outbound communication is secure. The installation of a firewall is based upon several set of rules that play a great role in deciding the type of a firewall to employ and the overall effectiveness of it. It would an unimportant and impractically costly venture to implement a firewall policy for a large companyââ¬â¢s network for a small office/home office network since this firewall would serve as a central offloading point for security-related activity. Through the installation of a firewall appliance in a SOHO environment, client systems can easily share Internet connections. Internet connections pose the main risk to every network whether in a shared or unshared environment. Hackers are constantly finding new ways either to create vulnerabilities in a highly secured network or even to attack any network that would have security vulnerabilities. As technology changes, application-level attacks are gr eatly advancing too. This whole situation has cause a huge tradeoff between the provision of a secure network and the cost of that provision. To secure a network especially one that has access to the Internet has proved to a challenging task to the network administrators since the more they put hard security measure both in hardware and software forms, the more attacks are being targeted and executed on their networks. This has led to the introduction of integrated firewall appliances e.g. gateways and routers, that handle both the work of data transmission and data screening at the perimeter wall. Clients in SOHO network depend a lot on emails. These emails can be outbound or inbound. Both should be screened at the firewall level to ensure that only legitimate emails are given access to the network. Emails carry attachments and security compromisers have always been bent on imitating their attacks using email attachment that contain worms, Trojans, spyware or even a malware. These embedded threats once that gain access to the network would cause undesired trouble in the stability of the network as some of them have the potential to iniatiate a denial of service attack. This attack is among the most hazardous on a network since the entire business is brought in to a halt. Another harmful attack would be the one initiated with intent

Is distance learning as good as classroom learning Essay
Is distance learning as good as classroom learning - Essay Example It is fundamentally the environment of education that makes the classroom learning different from the distance learning. In the classroom, learning takes place in an enclosed environment, wherein the teacher is in more control than the student. In the classroom, the teacher guides the students from activity to activity. The teacher keeps a close eye on every student along the way. Minimized interaction between the teacher and the student in the distance learning has negative implications on the quality of education. ââ¬Å"As with new teaching methods, online learning has faced much criticism from many sources as they claim it has devalued post secondary education and will reduce the effectiveness of obtaining quality career positions by obtaining higher educationâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Online Vs Classroomâ⬠). Education is not entirely about acquiring the certificate or the degree. Educational system in the schools is designed in such a way that not only grows a child academically, but also nurtures him/her morally, socially, psychologically and physically. In the schools, children get to meet a lot of children of their age. They interact and make friends with them. The friendships started in the early childhood are often ever-lasting. As they grow up, they help one another not only in education, but also refer one another to their bosses and other employers. Friends made in the school happen to be the most common source of news about employment opportunity. In addition to the increased social interaction, schools provide students with the opportunities to participate in sports. Schools arrange matches with other schools. Often, it is the very event when a child finds a potential player in himself/herself, and carries on the practice to become an international level player. Furthermore, s chools motivate the students to take part in all sorts of competitions. Students compete with one another to excel in the studies, sports as well as the extra-curricular activities. A student
